Suspected arms trader killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Eight firearms and 2,000 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered from the spot

A suspected arms trader has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Shapladeba area under Moheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. 

The deceased is Mahmud Karim, 35, son of Yusuf Ali.

Moheshkhali Officer-in-Charge (OC) Prodeep Kumar said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area around 5:30am on Sunday.

“Sensing our presence, they opened fire at us.”

In retaliation, police fired back that left Mahmud dead. 

The OC said eight firearms and 2,000 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, he said.
