Five people have been killed, and four others injured as a speeding truck ploughed through a CNG-run autorickshaw stand in Thakurdighi area under Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong district.
The deceased are Shah Alam, 40, Didarul Alam, 35, Kamrul, 24, Mosharraf, 26, and Mohiuddin.
Witnesses said the driver of the Dhaka-bound truck control over the steering and ploughed through an autorickshaw stand around 6:45am on Tuesday, killing four people on the spot.
Of the injured, one died on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Jorarganj Highway police outpost Sub-Inspector Sohel Sarker said the driver lost steering control as he dozed off.
The locals caught the truck driver and handed him over to the police
Amit Dey, resident medical officer of Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex, said four of the injured are being treated at the hospital.
