Five people have been killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar, and Pabna districts.

The “gunfights” took place early Tuesday.

In Dhaka, two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with RAB in the Rayerbazar area around 3:30am.

Acting on information, a team of RAB 2 conducted a drive in the area to arrest the robbers.

Upon seeing the elite force, the robbers opened fire on them.

 In retaliation, they fired back and the left the duo injured.

They were declared dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 6:30am, said DMCH police outpost In-Charge Sub-Inspector Bacchu Mia.

Three pistols, bullets, and sharp weapons were also recovered from the spot, said RAB.

In Cox’s Bazar, two suspected drug traders were killed in a “gunfight” with RAB 7 members in the Morichya area of Ukhiya upazila, around 2:30am.

The deceased are Abdus Samad, 27, of Sitakundu upazila in Chittagong; and Abu Hanif, 30, son of Nazmul Sarder, of Jessore.

Major Mehedi Hasan, company commander of RAB 7, said a team of the elite force had signaled their truck to stop.

However, denying signal, the drug traders opened fire on the members of RAB 7—forcing them to retaliate.

Later, two bodies were recovered from the spot.

The RAB official said they recovered: 130,000 yaba pills, two firearms, eight-round bullets, and eight-round bullet shells—from the spot.

In Pabna, 36-year-old Korban Hossain, a suspected leader of the region’s outlawed party, Naksal, was killed in a reported gunfight with police—in Koijori village, around 1:30am.

Acting on a tip-off, police went to a jackfruit orchard to arrest them, said Masud Rana, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ataikula police station.

When the police reached the spot, the gang of outlaws opened fire on them, prompting law enforcement’s response. A  “gunfight” ensured—leaving Korban dead on the spot.

Four policemen were also injured in the incident, the OC said, adding that: a revolver, four cartridges, two cartridge shells, 20 yaba pills, and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot.

Korban was accused in several cases, including for murder and robbery, said the police official.
