Floodwaters caused by heavy rain over last few days have inundated much of the low lying areas of Bogra and Gaibandha districts.
According to reports of our Bogra correspondent several areas of Sariakandi and Dhunat upazilas in Bogra district have been flooded by the rising Jamuna River following continuous rainfall and water from upstream.
The water at Mathurapur point of Sariakandi and Dhunat point of Dhunat upazila was flowing 11 centimeters above the danger level at 12.00 pm on Sunday, the Water Development Board said.
Thousands of houses on the river bank in two upazilas got flooded in the morning.
According to local sources, standing crops of 622-hectare land got damaged in char areas of the upazilas.
Meanwhile, croplands, homesteads, establishments of Chaluabari, Kazla, Bohail, Hatsherpur, Kutubpur of Sariakandi villages went under water leaving thousands of people homeless.
Locals have moved their belongings and domestic animals to safe places as the river water was flowing above danger level, said WDB Engineer Hasan Mahmud.
Abdul Karim Apple, chairman of Bhandarbari Union Council, said more than 500 families have been marooned as the Boishakhichar went under water.
Sairakandi Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Jahangir Alam said aman paddy of 42 hectare, vegetables of 20 hectare and sugarcane of 5 hectare went under water in last few days.
Our Gaibandha correspondent said water level of major three rivers Brahmaputra,Teesta and Karotoa has been continuing to rise alarmingly for few days last causing flood in char and river basin areas of several areas in the district.
The officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board said water level of the Brahmaputra River crossed the danger level at Phulchharighat point of the district inundating vast areas particularly the chars and the river basin areas of Sundarganj, Sadar, Phulchhari and Shaghata upazilas.
More than 575 houses of Kapasia, Horipur and Belka unions went under water in last few days, said Water Development Board sources.
