Around 23 villages in the char areas of the Teesta and Dharala rivers have been flooded following the onrush of water from hilly areas upstream.
More than 10,000 people are trapped in the flood water, so far, reports UNB.
The trans-boundary Teesta River was flowing 8cm above the danger level at Doyani point on Tuesday morning.
The officials of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said the situation became worsened when India opened the sluice-gates of the Gazaldoba barrage.
“Now, water is gushing into Bangladesh,” they added.
Meanwhile, 44 gates of the Teesta barrage have been opened to control water flow.
Additionally, the temporary dams of Dhurni village of Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat are also at risk, they said.
According to locals, the water level started to rise on Monday morning and the condition is gradually worsening.
BWDB Executive Engineer Rafiqul Alam Chowdhury of the Teesta Barrage Irrigation Project said the situation will be worse if the onrush of water from upstream hilly areas continues.
