A suspected drug trader has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chapainawabganj’s Gomastapur upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Abul Hossain Babu, 35.

A RAB team conducted a drive in Nayadibari area, early on Friday, following a tip-off that a group of drug traders were gathered in a mango grove, allocating drugs for distribution, said RAB 5 Camp Commander Syed Abdul Al Murad.

Upon spotting the team, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back.

The drug traders then fled the scene.

The elite force members brought an injured drug trader to the local upzila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

RAB recovered a pistol, one magazine, three rounds of bullets, and 177 bottles of phensedyl from the scene.
