A seven-year old girl was raped reportedly by a ninth grader at Melandaha upazila in Jamalpur on Sunday.
According to local sources, the girl, a nursery student of a local kindergarten and daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver, was playing in a field owned by their neighbour Azizul Haque in the Nayanagrpurbapara village in the afternoon.
Azizul’s son Suman forcefully took her to an isolated area and raped her. He then left her there with severe injuries.
On hearing the girl’s screams, locals rescued her and sent to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital.
Dr Shofiquzzaman, residential medical officer of the hospital, refused to comment on the matter, saying they would brief the media after on receiving the reports of her medical tests.
Gazi Shahkhawat Hossen, officer-in-charge of Melandaha police station, said the father of the girl filed a case, accusing Suman, and they were trying to arrest him.
