A unit of Dinajpur’s Barapukuria Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant, which was shut down for shortage of coal, resumed operation on Monday noon for six-seven days to meet the demand of electricity during the Eid-ul-Azha.
Officials said the authorities concerned took the decision to run the power plant during the festival to mitigate sufferings of the common people, reports UNB.
It requires 5,200 tons of coal every day to run the three units of the 525MW power plant.
Mahbubur Rahman, manager and executive engineer of the plant, said that currently a total of 5,000-6,000 tons of coal were in stock using which 70-80MW electricity could be generated from the second unit.
With this, the problem of low voltage and load-shedding would be reduced in the region, he said.
Barapukuria Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant was shut down on July 22 for shortage of coal.
