Road accidents kill 6 across the country

At least six people were killed in separate road accidents in five districts across the country on Saturday.

Our Gazipur correspondent said a cattle trader was killed and two others were injured when a truck collided head-on with another truck in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur in the morning.

Deceased Azizur Rahman Khoka, 30, was the son of Hossain Ali of Jamalpur.

Mawna Highway police station Officer-in-Charge Delwar Hossain said a Dhaka-bound truck carrying cattle collided head-on with a sand-laden truck on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 5:15am after its driver lost his control over the steering, leaving three wounded.

They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Khoka succumbed to his injuries around 6:15am. 

On the other hand, a helper of a truck was killed in a road accident in Sreepur upazila of the district.

The deceased was Mominul Islam, 30, a resident of Salonga upazila of Sirajganj.

A goods-laden truck was parked in front of Mono Feed factory on Friday night. Driver Najmul slept inside the vehicle while Mominul went to sleep under the truck, Kamrul Islam, assistant manager of the factory, said.

In the morning, the driver run the vehicle over his assistant while he was sleeping under it, leaving him dead on the scene, Kamrul added.

According to our Rajshahi correspondent reports, a motorcycle rider was killed in a road accident in Puthia upazila on Dhaka-Rajshahi highway.

The deceased was Sentu, 30, son of Rustam Ali, resident of Katakhali Harian area, Belpukur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mustafa said.

Quoting the witnesses, OC said Sentu was returning to Katakhali from Banshwar on a motorcycle. He fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Rajshahi highway after a speeding bus hit him.

Locals rescued him and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead. 

An easy bike driver was killed as a speeding bus rammed into his stand-by vehicle at Rajoir bus stop under Sharankhola upazila in Bagerhat, reports UNB.

The deceased was Eunus Haoladar, 30, son of Mobarak Haoladar of Rajoir village in the upazila.

Later, agitated locals torched the bus and blocked the road soon after the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Sharankhola police station Dilip Komar Sarkar said the accident took place when the speeding bus hit the easy bike after its driver lost his control over the steering while giving side to a human hauler in the morning, leaving Eunus dead on the spot.

Deceased’s brother Shafiqul Islam claimed that driver of the bus Shahidul locked into in an altercation with Eunus over boarding passengers on his easy bike a few days back.

“It is not an accident, it’s a murder as Shahidul had threatened to take revenge on my brother,” Shafiqul said.

Later, police recovered the body and seized the bus while its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, the OC added.

Our Noakhali correspondent said two siblings were killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit a pickup van on the Chowmuhani-Begumganj road in the district.

The deceased are Nahid, 10, and Nazia Akter,3, children of Abidur Rahman Suman at Kadirpur village of Begumganj upazila.
