Satkhira Press Club members held a human chain to speak out against the oppression and persecution of journalists in the district.
The programme was held near the Press Club around 11am Saturday.
The protesters also burned an effigy of former health minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, in objection to the case filed against journalist Ashim Chakrabarti and Monirul Islam Moni under Section 57 of the ICT Act.
In addition, they demanded justice for the murders of journalist couple Sagor and Runi, whose case remains unsolved five years after the double murder. They also demanded quick justice in the Daily Shamakal reporter Abdul Hakim Shimul’s murder and protested against a forgery case filed against Daily Observer correspondent AM Zillur Rahman.

Satkhira Press Club President Abul Kalam Azad conducted the human chain.
Daily Kaler Chitro Editor Abu Ahmed, Dokkhin Moshal Editor Ashek-e-Ilahi, Press Club ex-president Shubhash Chowdhury, among others, addressed the programme.
The protesters demanded the detention of the actual criminals responsible for the injustice.
They also announced a work abstention on March 1 and a rally on March 6.
