One killed in 'gunfight' with police in Chittagong

 A listed criminal was killed in what police described as a gunfight in Chittagong’s AnwaraUpazila.

 The deceased has been identified as Nasir Hossain Mamun, 35.

 Anwara police’s Officer-in-Charge Dulal Mahmud said Mamun was involved in criminal activities.

 Police said the deceased was accused in 18 cases including murder, rape, extortion and possession of illegal firearms.

 The 'gunfight' took place around 1:30pm on Saturday at Dudhkumra area of Barasat Union in Anwara.

 Police arrested Mamun and took him to recover illegal firearms.

 A skirmish ensued after Mamun’s associates fired at police. During the ‘gunfight’, Mamun died after being hit by bullets, police said.

 The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
