Suspected drug peddler killed in Munshiganj ‘gunfight’

Two RAB personnel were also injured in the incident

A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Lohajang area of Munshiganj. Two RAB personnel were also injured in the incident.

The deceased – Mokbul Hossain, 36 – was accused in 12 cases and a listed illegal narcotics dealer in the area, confirmed RAB 11, CPC 1 ASP Muhitul Islam, on Friday. 

ASP Muhitul Islam said: “Acting on a tip-off that a gang of culprits were dealing drugs near Kumarbhog, a RAB team conducted a raid in the area around 3:45am. Sensing RAB’s presence, the miscreants began firing on them, triggering a gunfight. 

“RAB forces retaliated, and later, the body of Mokbul was found at the scene. He was taken to Lohajang Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.”

Lohajang police station Officer-in-Charge Liakat Ali told the correspondent: “Mokbul was accused in 12 cases, and was out on bail before his death.”

One foreign pistol, two bullets, one magazine, two mobile phones, 500 pieces of Yaba, and Tk4,600 in cash, were seized from the area.
