Drug dealer killed in ‘gunfight’ in Comilla

The incident occurred during a RAB-led anti-narcotics drive on Wednesday

A drug dealer named Faruq Hossain, 35, has been killed in a “gunfight” against members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla.

The incident occurred while the law enforcement agency was conducting an anti-narcotics drive in Gholpasha union on Wednesday.

RAB 11 CPC 2 Comilla Commander Major Md Ataur Rahman said: “RAB went on an anti-narcotics drive in the Komalla village of Gholpasha union, at dawn on Wednesday. Sensing RAB’s presence, the drug dealers attacked them. 

RAB fired back in self-defense, critically wounding Faruq Hossain. A RAB officer was also injured during the alleged gunfight. However, other drug dealers there-present managed to escape. 

Faruq was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor pronounced him dead. RAB also recovered yaba tablets and weapons from the incident site. 

Faruq had many cases filed with various police stations in his name.
