PBCP leader killed in Rajbari 'gunfight' with police

Police added that he is accused in multiple cases, some involving robbery

A leader of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) has been killed in a so- called gunfight with the police in Rajbari. 

The deceased is Lalon Haldar, the second-in-command of Lal Pataka Bahini (Red Flag Squad) under the PBCP, confirmed police sources; they added that he is accused in multiple cases, related to serious crimes, including robbery.

Lalon hailed from Sujanagar area of Pabna.

Confirming the matter, Fazlul Karim, senior assistant superintendent of Rajbari Police (Pangsha Circle) told the Dhaka Tribune: “On a tip off, the police conducted a raid in the Switchgate area on Thursday night. 

“Sensing a police presence, a gang of extremists began firing at them, triggering a gunfight. Lalon was injured during the incident. Police took him to Pangsha Upazila Health Complex, where the on duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.”

The body of the deceased will be sent to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Police also seized a rifle, a locally made gun, and six cartridges from the spot.
