Two suspected drug dealers have been killed in separate alleged gunfights in Mymensingh.

Police also claimed to have recovered drugs and firearms after the so-called gunfights.

Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge Ashikur Rahman said they conducted a joint raid with Tarakanda police near the Phulpur road.

“The drug dealers started hurling chunks of bricks and fired random shots at us triggering a gunfight,” he claimed.

He said they found Ali Hossain, 44, lying on the spot with a gunshot wound after the skirmish. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

In Trishal, police said they laid siege to an abandoned house to catch several ‘drug peddlers’. Swapan Mia, 42, was killed in a gunfight during the siege.

Meanwhile, in Chuadaga, police recovered the body of 25-year-old Hridoy, who was described as a drug peddler by Damurhuda police station’s OC Imdadul Haq.

Hridoy’s father Bachchu Mia said several men had taken away his son from their house on June 19.

OC Imndadul said: “Unidentified miscreants abducted him on Tuesday evening. We suspect he was killed over sharing drug money.”
