A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a reported gunfight with rivals, near Prembagh area in Jessore’s Abhaynagar upazila, early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 34.
Abhaynagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Goni Miah said, acting on information , a team of police reached the spot where the gunfight took place around 3:30am.
“Sensing police presence the gangs of drug peddlers left the spot,” the OC said.
Police recovered the bullet-wounded body and sent it to the Jessore General Hospital’s morgue.
A pipe gun, bullets, and 120 pieces of yaba pills were recovered from the scene, the OC added.
According to police, Shahidul was wanted in more than 10 cases.
