A 13-kilometre long tailback formed on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Friday morning.
It stretched from the highway’s Gazaria part of Meghna Bridge to the Gomti Bridge.
Police said vehicular movement was slow due to an excessive number of cargo vehicles.
Bhaberchar highway police outpost Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md Alamgir Hossain, said: “Too many Dhaka-bound vehicles caused the traffic congestion from Cumilla’s Daudkandi.
“Of them, 99% are cargo vehicles.”
He pointed out that there was no traffic congestion on the Cumilla lane, and vehicles on that lane were moving smoothly.
