Voting underway in Ghatail

Voting was suspended at a centre following incidents of violence in late March

Voters are exercising their franchise at a centre in Tangail’s Ghatail where voting was suspended in March after violence had broken out.

Voting started at 8am on Tuesday and will run until 4pm at Sagardighi Union’s Gupta Brindaban Government Primary School.

Six unions of Ghatail went to polls on March 29. In the night before the vote, a youth was killed in clashes over snatching of ballot papers at the Gupta Brindaban Government Primary School.

The Election Commission later suspended voting at the centre. The Sagardighi union chairman election result has been pending since.

Tangail’s Election Officer Tajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that they had deployed adequate member of members of the law enforcement agencies.
