The deceased are Abu Musa alias Abujar alias Abu Talha alias Robin alias Samiul, the new JMB chief coordinator in four districts, and Abdur Sattar, head of a criminal gang in Cox’s Bazar.
Police said Abu Musa is an associate of Gulshan attack coordinator Rajib.
Kahalu police station Officer-in-Charge Nur-e-Alam Siddique said: “A group of criminals opened fire at a patrol police team around 2:45am Tuesday. In retaliation, police also fired back.”
All the criminals but one managed to flee the scene, said the OC, adding that the injured criminal had been taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Abdur Sattar was killed in another “gunfight” with police in Moheshkhali of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.
Seven policemen were also injured in the incident.
Moheshkhali police station OC Prodip Kumar Das said a gang of criminals fired at a petrol police team at a hill near Keruntoli of Hoanok union, forcing the police to fire back.
“Criminal and arms trader Abdus Sattar was wounded with bullet during the gun battle. He was taken to Moheshkhali Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead,” the OC added.
