A human chain and rally demanding the restoration of respect for freedom fighters, and for the law to safeguard their families was held in Satkhira.
Muktijoddha Sangsad and Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command arranged the program on Shaheed SM Alauddin Street off Satkhira's New Market area on April 15.
Zila Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander, Mosharraf Hossain gave a speech as president at the program.
The speakers at the event said: “The movement started in order to withdraw quota system and the attack on the Vice-Chancellor's office are all part of a conspiracy laid by anti-liberation bodies.
“Similarly, the movement against quota system that culminated into defaming the freedom fighters, is not ideal of an independent nation,” they said.
Slogans such as “No place for Razakars in independent Bangla” and “Enemies of liberation, beware” followed in the main roads of the district, ending in the zila collectorate street.
Afterwards, a compiled six-point demand was brought to the Prime Minister's attention via an administrative memorandum.
The demands were: restoring the respect of freedom fighters, a law entailing security of freedom fighters' families, punishment to those who vandalized the VC's residence, exclusive examinations held to determine employment for the children of freedom fighters, that all facilities benefiting those against independence should be withdrawn, women, disabled individuals and ethnic minority groups to be allowed special examinations for employment, and for anti-independent groups to be banned from viva board exams for jobs.
