Three organizers of the Revolutionary Workers Movement and the Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement were detained by police while putting up posters supporting the garment workers' movement in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area on Wednesday.

The detainees were identified as Rakib Uddin, president of the Chittagong Metropolitan branch of the Revolutionary Workers Movement; Zahid, vice-president of the Chittagong Metropolitan branch of the Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement; and Shanto, a member of the organization.

According to a statement sent by Naim Uddin, vice-president of the National Committee of the Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement, leaders and activists of the 2 organizations were putting up handwritten posters in the EPZ area as part of a campaign supporting the garment workers' movement.

At around 5pm, a police officer grabbed one of the organizers by the hand. All 3 were subsequently taken to a nearby police box for questioning, the statement said.

EPZ police van later arrived to take them to the police station, where they remain detained, according to the statement.

The organization demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the 3 organizers, the release of all individuals arrested in connection with the garment workers' movement, and fulfillment of the workers' legitimate demands.
