The body of special public prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik has been recovered five days after he went missing.
His body was found in an abandoned building in Tajhat Mollapara area of Rangpur town early on Wednesday. His brother Shushanta Bhowmik and other relatives identified the body.
Rathish, a special public prosecutor of a Rangpur court, had been missing since March 30.
Police had arrested nine people, including five Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, over Rathish’s disappearance.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 13 office, RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed said Ratish’s wife Snigdha Sarkar Dipa, an assistant teacher of Tajhat High School, and her colleague Quamrul Islam strangled the lawyer to death on Thursday night.
"Dipa had an extramarital affair with Quamrul. She sedated Rathish after feeding him milk and rice laced with 10 hypnotic pills," he was quoted by UNB as saying.
Dipa and Quamrul strangulated Rathish to death, the RAB chief said, adding that they made the plot to kill Rathish two months ago, and three other people assisted them in executing their plan.

On Friday, Dipa and Quamrul kept the body inside an almirah and later took it in a van to a construction site, where they buried it, he said.
Two of Quamrul's students -- Sabuj Islam and Rukonuzzaman -- dug a hole to hide the body in exchange for Tk300 each, Benazir said.
Meanwhile, police filed a case with Kotwali police station over the murder.
Rathish Chandra Bhowmik, who represented the state in the murder cases of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi and Khadem Rahmat Ali, had remained missing since Friday morning.
On Tuesday night, members of the elite force detained Dipa for interrogation over her husband’s disappearance.
Following Dipa’s statement confessing to her involvement in the murder, RAB members recovered the body of the lawyer from the under-construction building owned by one of the brothers of Quamrul.
On Monday, Quamrul and his colleague Atiar Rahman were detained over the incident.
