The case was filed against 29 known persons and another 150 unknown persons who allegedly clashed at Gondamara union in Banshkhali upazila on Wednesday.
Two groups of villagers, for and against of the construction of a coal power plant had a fierce clash leaving one dead and 16 injured.
“Liakat Ali was made main accused in the murder case,” said Advocate Kafil.
On February 3, Banshkhali police filed a murder case on their own accusing 200 unknown persons on Friday in connection with the death of the villager during a clash.
Advocate Kafil said that the court ordered Banshkhali police to register the case that the victim’s family tried to file but was refused by the police.
Instead registering the family’s FIR accusing 29 people, the police lodged their own case accusing 150-200 unknown people.
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali police station, claimed that the police filed the case because the family of the deceased did not file one.
The police also organised a programme to provide monetary compensation at the office of Chittagong Superintendent of Police on Sunday but the family refused to go.
Abu Syed, younger brother of the deceased told the Dhaka Tribune: “We decided not to take the compensation of Tk5 lakh as the police refused to register our case.”
