Construction worker killed as auditorium roof collapses in Mymensingh

A construction worker was killed and five others were severely wounded after the roof of the under-construction auditorium of Mymensingh Zilla Parishad (district council) collapsed on Friday. The incident took place in the district's Gaffargaon upazila, Gaffargaon police station OC Abdul Ahad confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune. The deceased was identified as Jahan, 25, a native of Durgapur village in Netrokona district. Locals said the accident had occurred because low-quality construction material had been used to build the auditorium. The zilla parishad is constructing the auditorium with its own funds, sources said. Sources said the construction of a two-storey auditorium building was underway in KB Ismail Road area of Gaffargaon. On Friday morning, the roof of the under-construction building collapsed, crushing the six construction workers. The injured worker were rushed to Gaffargaon Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors pronounced Jahan dead. The five other workers are currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital. The injured workers could not be immediately identified.
