The ferry services in Paturia and Daulatdia has been suspended yet again from 4:30am on Sunday due to loss of navigability caused by dense fog.
Six ferries, carrying passengers and vehicles are marooned in the Padma River. Meanwhile, seven ferries in Paturia and 3 in Daulatdia remain docked due to the navigational hazard.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Assistant Manager Mohiuddin Russell confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Quoting ferry masters, the BIWTA official added: “Dense fog enveloped the river from around midnight. Even fog-lights installed on the ferries were unable to cut through the mist. All ferry movement and services were suspended since 4:30am to avert any possible accidents.”
Mohiuddin stated that ferry services will resume as soon as the fog density becomes low enough for the water vessels to allow safe navigability in the river.
