Update : 19 Nov 2017, 07:48 PM
Police have rescued the abducted Rajshahi University (RU) student and arrested three men including her estranged husband from Dhaka. In a press briefing at 11:30am on Sunday, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman said the arrestees were victim’s estranged husband Sohel Rana, his father Joynal Abedin and microbus driver Zahidul Islam. The victim Umme Shahi Ammana Shova, a final-year undergraduate student of Department of Bangla in the university, was abducted from in front of Taposi Rabeya Hall at RU on Friday.

According to the RMP commissioner, Shova’s former husband Sohel Rana abducted her to make her repeal a divorce notice she issued a few days ago. Shova was taken to a Kazi office (marriage register office) in Dhaka. The law enforcement agency also arrested Sohel and microbus driver Zahidul during a drive. Earlier on Friday night, a police team arrested Sohel's father Zainal Abedin from Naogaon's Patnitola area following the filing of an abduction case by the victim's father, Amzad Hossain. Ismail Hossain, the investigation officer of the case, on Sunday filed a petition with the court of Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), seeking a five-day remand for each of the three arrestees. After hearing the petition, Judge Mahbubur Rahman of the CMM court placed Sohel and Zahidul on a one-day remand each and sent Sohel's father Zainal to the jail. Meanwhile, Shova was taken back to Rajshahi on Saturday night and was kept at the Victim Support Centre.
