Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) opened a 60-bed Emergency Response Unit Field Hospital (ERU) in Ukhiya upazila to provide free medical treatment to the Rohingya refugees.
The initiative is under the Norwegian, Finland and Japan Red Cross Society, according to a press release from BDRCS on Sunday.
The Emergency Response Unit Field Hospital (ERU) will begin functioning on Monday, with three wards, one operation theater, two cabins of the Prasuti ward and a separate unit.
Hospital authorities said that medical treatment will be conducted by 15 doctors and 30 midwives of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital and specialist doctors. 25 trained volunteers of the Red Crescent will provide support in the hospital.
Project Director of Population Movement Operation EIkram Elahi Chowdhury said that the hospital will provide quality treatment to local people including Myanmar citizens.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society BMM Mozharul Huq, NDC said this is the first fully functional hospital. It will also assist in the work of the medical team and other clinics operating under the BDRCS.
According to the press release, the Mobile Medical Team, operated by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, has provided free treatment to more than 4,000 patients from August 25.
