Housewife killed, then thrown to river over family feud

Update : 28 Sep 2017, 01:14 AM
A housewife has been strangled to death and then thrown to Dhaleshwari River allegedly by her husband over family feud in the Ghior upazila of Manikganj. The deceased is Kalpana Rani, 25, daughter of Kalipada Ghosh from Tangail's Mirzapur upazila. Police detained five people including her husband Sanjit Sumar Ghosh and mother-in-law. Sub-Inspector Md Hazrat Ali of Ghiior police station, quoting locals, said Sanjit, son of late Narayan Chandra Ghosh, hailing from the upazila's Teroshree area, had been engaged in a  dispute with Kalpana ever since their marriage back in 2009. “Sanjit bought some clothes on occasion of Durga Puja on Sunday afternoon, which Kalpana did not like, leading to an altercation between them. Later at night, they yet again exchanged heated words,” he said. At one stage, Sanjit became outraged and strangulated Kalpana to death and threw the corpse to the river from a Bailey bridge near the Ghior Veterinary Hospital around midnight, the police official added. Aiming to hush up the crime, he filed a general diary (GD), stating that his wife went missing, with the police station on Monday, said SI Ali. But, an investigation into the GD helped uncover the actual incident as Sanjit kept his mobile phone switched off after filing the complaint and went into hiding. Police, however, managed to detain him and his mother from Nagorpur upazila of Tangail and said they were interrogating all five detainees. As of 7pm on Wednesday, the body could not be recovered.
