The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has dismissed a leave-to-appeal petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
The five-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain passed the order on Sunday morning.
The BNP chief filed the petition against a High Court order that upheld her indictment in the graft case.
Earlier on November 24, the apex court dismissed two leave-to-appeal petitions of Khaleda regarding acceptance of charges and indictment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for Khaleda while Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state during the hearing on Sunday.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon police station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, for abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
The Special Judge’s Court 3 framed charges against Khaleda and three others on March 19 this year.
On April 23, the High Court upheld an indictment order against the BNP chief rejecting her petition. Khaleda on July 6 filed the petition with the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.
