A complaint was filed against three policemen, including a sub-inspector of Bangshal police station with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on charge of extorting money from a businessman.
Md Makbul Hosssain, the owner of Quality Accessories, filed the complaint yesterday morning. The three accused are Sub-Inspector Mohammad Murshid and two constables Moazzem Hossain and Pradip Kumar.
After recording the statement, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman decided to pass the order later. But finally, the court asked the Criminal Investigation Department to look into the matter and submit a probe report to it before November 27.
The complainant alleged that the three policemen went to his office at 42/D Haji Abdul Sarker Lane in Bangshal on Monday and demanded Tk5 lakh.
“They threatened to file a false case against me if I failed to pay them toll. They also took my signature on a blank sheet,” he said.
Makbul later gave them Tk3.50 lakh. A closed circuit television camera set up at the office recorded the incident, the plaintiff said.
On Tuesday, Makbul went to Bangshal police station, but the policemen refused to register any case in this regard. Rather the policemen forced him to leave the office, he claimed.
However, Defence Counsel Md Sujon Khan said the complainant filed a petition with the court to withdraw the case as he reached an agreement with the policemen. The court fixed December 10 for hearing.
Earlier on October 20, another case was filed against five policemen of Banani police station for alleged extortion.
The five accused are Officer-in-Charge Bhuiyan Mahbubur Rahman, sub-inspectors Md Aminul, Md Rabbani, Abu Bakker and a radio operator.
Md Ziaur Rahman, reporter of Oporadh Bichitra, filed the case with the court.
