The High Court has ordered the deputy commissioners and police supers of five districts of the country's southern region to stop the plying of locally made three-wheelers on different highways within 72-hours.
The districts are Barisal, Foridpur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Khulna.
An HC bench comprising of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Khoshruzzaman passed the order on Monday afternoon.
The court asked deputy commissioners and police supers of the districts to stop the plying of all type of illegally-made vehichles, including Nosimon, Korimon, Bhotbhoti, Mahidra and easy bikes, on the highways.
The court also asked the authorities to submit a compliance report within two weeks.
The court also issued a rule asking why an order should not be issued to implement the Motor-Vihicle Ordinance for taking steps to stop the plying of these vehicles on the roads and highway.
The HC issued the rule against 20 people including the secretary of Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police, Communication Secretary, DIG Highway, BRTA Chairman and the DCs and SPs
of the five districts.
The court asked the respondents to give their answers within four weeks.
On Sunday, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed a petition regarding the matter.
