The Anti-Corruption Commission is set to sue 21 people, including seven government officials, for their alleged involvement with the misappropriation of Tk2.31 crore.
The ACC at a regular meeting on Thursday approved filing of a case against them.
The commission in its primary investigation found that the government officials in connivance with some residents of Gopalganj were involved with the misappropriation of public money, an ACC official told the Dhaka Tribune.
The accused officials include former assistant commissioner of Gopalganj M Shahriar Matin [now officer on special duty (OSD) at the Ministry of Public Administration], former kanoongo Romesh Pal, Suvendra Bikash Mojumder and Abdul Jabbar, ex-surveyors Kashedul Haque, Mohammad Ismail and Mosharraf Hossain and 14 people from Gopalganj.
The anti-graft body had approved filing of the case as Shahriar and 20 others were found involved with the misappropriation of Tk2.31 crore, the official said.
He also added that the government gave the money for land acquisition.
He said Shahriar in connivance with other officials of the land acquisition office had misappropriated the money, causing financial loss to the government.
ACC Assistant Director M Ali Akbar Khan had carried out an investigation into the allegation of the misappropriation of public money.
