The High Court yesterday issued a ruling asking why Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra’s reception closing the schools should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the ruling in response to a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond on May 29 on behalf of a Dumuria upazila inhabitant Kamlesh Mistri.
On May 3, 209 schools of Dumuria were reportedly closed due to reception of the junior minister which was a violation of the government notifications issued on December 9 of last year and January 27 of current calendar year, the plea said.
The High Court asked why the closure of schools during reception should not be held a violation of the notifications. The court also asked why a direction should not be given to comply with the notifications. Secretaries to the cabinet division, the education ministry, the LGRD and cooperatives ministry, director general of the directorate of education and the divisional commissioner of Khulna were asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
