An angry mob caught an armed Chhatra League leader while he was allegedly trying to mug a person at the capital’s Moghbazar intersection in broad daylight yesterday. Having caught him, the mob then proceeded to beat him. He was then handed over to the police.
Police said the incident took place in front of a Pubali Bank branch in the area at around 11:45am.
The arrested was Masud Parvez – general secretary of Rampura unit BCL. He is an honors student of Abujar Gifari College.
Locals said Masud was stalking an auto spare parts dealer, Belal, who had just withdrawn Tk5 lakh from the bank. When Masud was trying to forcibly snatch the bag of money from his hand, the businessman shouted for help.
Maruf Hossain Sardar, deputy commissioner of police, Ramna Division confirmed that the police seized a firearm from the accused.
Masud who was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment for his head injuries claimed that the firearm belonged to his friend Sourav.
