Two prosecution witnesses in the Banshkhali carnage case yesterday told a Chittagong court that Amin Chairman along with his men set fire to the house of Tejendra Shil at Shilpara in Banshkhali upazila to grab his land property.
Ahsanullah Chowdhury, former chairman of Sadhanpur union under Banshkhali upazila, and Shachindralal Shil, brother of Tejendralal Shil, gave their depositions before the court of Third Additional District and Sessions Judge Hla Mong, court sources said.
The court was, however, adjourned till April 7.
“After the incident, I came to know that local BNP leader Aminur Rahman Chowdhury alias Amin Chairman and his men torched the house to occupy a pond and land property,” said Ahsanullah.
With the two, a total of five witnesses gave their statements in the case.
Miscreants set fire to the house on November 18, 2003, killing 11 members of the family. Bimal Shil, the lone survivor of the arson attack, filed a case against 30-35 unnamed people the following day.
Investigation Officer Hla Ching Pru on January 9, 2011 submitted a supplementary charge sheet against 39 people, including Amin Chairman.
On September 12 the same year, the court framed charges against 38 people, including Amin Chairman.
