Update : 25 Nov 2013, 05:43 AM

Detectives yesterday arrested three individuals for allegedly murdering a youth and chopping up his body in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area, almost seven months after the incident.

Officials of the Detective Branch (DB) of police said the accused were arrested from Hasannagar under Kamrangirchar thana and Hasnabad under Keraniganj thana.

They were Anwar Hossain, Sharif and victim Monir Hossain’s second wife Shwarna Akhter Kakoli alias Nipa. They admitted their involvement with the killing.

According to the detectives, Nipa was victim Monir’s second wife. After getting divorced with Monir, Nipa married Sharif with help of Anwar Hossain.

However, Monir wanted to get back with his ex-wife and requested Anwar to make the arrangements for a re-marriage. Monir allegedly paid him Tk200,000 as fee for negotiations.

But the negotiations failed while Anwar, Sharif and Nipa embezzled the money. Monir then demanded his money back, said Mohammad Anwar Hossain, an inspector of DB.

He said, Nipa called Monir to her rented flat to settle the feud over money on April 17. Anwar, his cohort Ibrahim and Sharif were also present there.

“At one stage of altercation, Sharif and Ibrahim held Monir and pushed him to the floor. Anwar put a pillow on Monir’s face, leaving him dead. But, to ascertain his death, Sharif cut the victim’s throat with a knife,” the DB officer said.

Sharif then cut Monir’s legs from the knees, and beheaded him. The body was finally cut into seven pieces and the parts were put into two sacks and two bags. Later, they were dumped at two different places near the Buruganga River and in the back of a house, the said.

The accused went into hiding following the incident and a case was filed on April 19 in this connection.

Police will send the arrestees to court seeking remand to extract more information.
