Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has called on the government to remain vigilant on corruption while also urging judges to stay alert in this regard.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 20th Orientation Course for Additional District and Sessions Judges, held Saturday morning at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) complex in the capital.
“Judges must ensure justice by choosing the path of correct decisions from a sense of responsibility and should always strive to make the right decisions,” he said. “You (judges) ensure justice, and we (the government) are with you.”
He added: “We want public trust in the judiciary to increase further. The people have given us the mandate. I urge you to avoid anything that stands in the way of establishing justice and to uphold justice. The government will always be by your side in this effort.”
Referring to the perspective of the Prime Minister, the law minister said that responsibility and sound decision-making, rather than popularity, should guide public duties. He noted that the emphasis should always be on choosing the right course of action in all circumstances.
Stressing a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, Asaduzzaman said: “We will remain alert on corruption, and judges must also remain conscious. If this is not ensured, the long struggle to strengthen this institution, establish the rule of law, and protect human rights will fail. We do not want to carry that burden in view of the next generation.”
The session was chaired by retired High Court Division Justice of the Supreme Court and JATI Director General Md Emdadul Haque. Members of the Law Commission, trainee judges, and officials and employees of the Bangladesh Judicial Administration and Training Institute were also present.
