The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the High Court ruling that ordered to freeze bank account of Omar Faruq Talukder, former assistant personal secretary of now minister without portfolio Suranjit Sengupta.
The vacation chamber judge of the top court, Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah on Tuesday passed the order refusing a plea lodged by Faruq to stay the HC verdict.
Khurshid Alam Khan contended for Anti-Corruption Commission while ASM Shahjahan pleaded for Omar Faruk in the hearing.
In April last year, Faruk was caught with about Tk7million allegedly received as bribe. Accusations arose that he was en route to the Jhigatola residence of then Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta with the money.
Soon after, Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against the former APS.
Faruk's Mercantile Bank Limited Dilkhusha branch account had been temporarily frozen before a lower court ruled it operational again.
The anti-graft watchdog moved the HC challenging the lower court order.
On July 29, the HC turned down the lower court ruling and ordered authorities to freeze the concerned account.
Later, Omar Faruk approached the Appellate Division questioning the HC judgement.
