Workers at the tailoring shops in Satkhira have been on strike for the last 10 days as their demand for wage hike remains unmet.
This has put the people in the town in a bothersome situation as Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking on the door.
On the other hand, the tailors are determined to continue their strike until their demand is met, reports UNB.
Meanwhile, owners of the tailoring shops through loudspeaker announcements have requested the people who placed Eid orders to take back their cloths as they will not be able to deliver the clothes on time.
Many of the town residents have started buying readymade garments from the shopping malls for Eid, but the poor and low-income group people are seeing no alternatives.
One customer, Abdur Rouf, who came to take away his panjabi's cloth said that in every Eid his sons buy cloth for him to make Panjabi.
"I am afraid that this year I may not make Panjabi by tailors as they are on strike." Many other customers expressed same reactions like Rouf.
Another female customer, Monwara Momtaz, said they would not face any problem if the owners had met the workers' demand.
She said although Eid is now imminent, tailoring shop owners are returning customer's clothes.
How many times can one buy clothes for one Eid? she questioned.
Darji Sramik Union President Mozaffar Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Shaheed Akbar Hossain said they had given an ultimatum to the owners twice to meet their 14-point demand.
But the owners did not show respect to their demands.
Satkhira District Tailoring Shop Owners Association General Secretary Sirajul Islam said demands of the tailors were unjustified. During every Eid festival, they raise unfair demands, he added.
He said they had a two-year agreement with the Darji Sramik Union at Satkhira Chamber of Commerce which made last year.
But after eleven months, the workers have now raised new demands and are observing strike, which is in violation with the agreement, he added.
