The Cabinet has given its initial approval to the draft for the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Act 2021, with the provision of up to 10 years in prison for leaking question papers.
The law proposes a minimum three years in prison and financial penalties for leaking question papers of recruitment tests for government jobs administered by the public service commission.
The greenlight to the draft act came on Tuesday at the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“The law proposes up to two years in prison or financial penalty or both for adopting unfair means during the tests,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a media briefing.
Anyone obstructing the examinations to be held will get a year in jail, he said before adding if an exam conductor is found guilty of irregularities, he or she will get two years in jail.
Mobile courts will be allowed to conduct drives and punish offenders during recruitment tests administered by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
"The existing law, formulated in 1977, does not stipulate the punitive measures precisely. The context has changed a lot in recent years," said Cabinet Secretary Islam.
