The war crimes tribunal will deliver its verdict Wednesday on a prosecution plea to accept eight statements from witnesses, against Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury.

After hearing both the sides Tuesday, the three-judge International Crimes Tribunal 1, headed by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, set the date.

The statements were recorded by the investigation officer under Section 19(2) of the ICT Act 1973, the prosecution said while submitting the plea on Sunday.

The prosecution Tuesday also pleaded to the tribunal to correct the list of names. Three of the eight witnesses have already died.

Meanwhile, deposition of the prosecution’s last witness, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Nurul Islam, was not held Tuesday since the accused was sick.

The IO started giving his deposition on Sunday.

Counsel for the accused, Ahsanul Huq pleaded for adjournment citing Salauddin Quader was sick and so could not appear at the tribunal in the morning.

After lunch, the police presented the accused before the tribunal. Tribunal chairman asked that the accused be taken to jail as soon as possible. He said they would pass order today and that the accused must be present at that time.

Following the order, the IO’s deposition will start again.
