The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh has expressed deep concerns over a Bangladeshi domestic worker found dead in a dustbin in Jordan.
The concerns were expressed in a press release sent to the media on Saturday.
According to the press releases -- signed by Farhana Saeed, public relations officer of NHRC -- Bangladesh Ambassador to Jordan Nahida Sobhan said in a news that the woman was a domestic worker.
“She had a contract to work in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi family she worked for brought her to Jordan. Local police are investigating the incident and we have asked the police about the progress of the investigation,” Nahida added.
In the press release, NHRC Chairperson Nasima Begum said that such a death of an expatriate domestic worker is an extreme violation of human rights.
A letter will be sent to the secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment to take appropriate legal action against the culprits and to provide appropriate compensation to the victim's family.
A copy of the letter will also be sent to the secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she added.
