Rights watchdog Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) on Thursday expressed deep concern over the recent mass arrests of political opponents centering the programs announced by various political parties.
Citing media reports, ASK claimed law enforcement agencies are arresting people indiscriminately on charges of preventing them from discharging duties, conducting and planning subversive activities including detonating cocktail bombs, ASK said in a statement.

“431 people were produced before the Dhaka court by the Dhaka city police and Dhaka district police on November 7 for subversive cases. Among them, 310 were taken into remand.
“It is feared that the mass arrest was done centering the public meeting of Jatiya Oikya Front held in Dhaka,” the statement read.
“The incidents by law enforcing agencies are conflicting with section 33 and section 36 of the constitution,” it added.

“The behavior by law enforcement agencies will create an adverse effect on the public perception of democracy, freedom of different opinions, and establishment of rule of law in the country,” ASK has pointed out. “It will also create fear and lack of security among people.”
Condemning the arrests, ASK urged the authorities to refrain from such acts to establish democracy and rule of law in the country.
