A court in Chittagong has rejected the fresh remand prayer for Supreme Court Barrister Shakila Farzana in her alleged link with financing newly traced outfit Shaheed Hamja Brigade (SHB).
Barrister Shakila was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Shiplu Kumar Dey with five days remand prayer sought by RAB 7 in the case filed with Hathazari police station under Anti-Terrorism Act while the court rejected the remand prayer and sent her to jail, said Shakila’s lawyer advocate Abdus Sattar.
Abdus Sattar told the Dhaka Tribune that “Shakila was put on remand earlier and gave her confessional statement under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code before the court in the Hathazari case while RAB members plead before the court with five days remand in the case again”.
“We informed the matter to the court showing a notice of Appeal Division while the court sent her to the jail rejecting the remand prayer”, said Advocate Sattar.
Earlier the accused Shakila Farzana was hospitalised at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on September 11.
Advocate Sattar said Barrister Shakila has been suffering from high blood pressure and kidney problems while the court also asked to submit the medical board report which formed for Shakila within three days.
She is undergoing treatment at the Jail Hospital, added the lawyer of the accused.
On August 24, Shakila was put on two-day remand and two other accused of the case advocate Md Hasanuzzaman Liton and advocate Mahfuz Chowdhury were put on three-day remand under RAB-7 custody in Hathazari case.
Earlier, the lawyers -- Barrister Shakila, Advocate Liton and Advocate Bapon -- were arrested from the capital on August 18 night while they confessed they deposited the money in don’s account as the return of their clients’ advance fees and denied the militancy funding.
