The High Court will pronounce its verdict on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s pleas to scrap the proceeding of Barapukuria coal mine graft case any day.
The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob kept the petition curia advisori vult CAV, which means it reserves the judgment for another day, after concluding argument on her petition on Sunday.
The court also extended its previous order that stayed the proceedings of the case until delivery of the verdict.
Earlier on August 23 the High Court had rejected two petitions of Khaleda Zia filed seeking the records and final report in Barapukuria corruption case.
Khaleda filed the petitions on August 18 to know the legal procedure under which the ACC appointed the second investigation officer (IO) after the first IO had exempted her from the charges in June 2008.
The ACC on February 26, 2008, filed the case with Shahbagh police station, accusing Khaleda and 10 of her former cabinet colleagues of taking Tk159 crore in kickbacks on the Barapukuria coalmine deal awarded to the highest bidder, instead of the lowest one.
In 2008, the High Court stayed the case proceedings, and in a ruling asked the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission to explain why the case should not be dropped.
The court had extended the stay order on the case several times in the past. The latest six-month extension was ordered on April 10.
