The International Crimes Tribunal has exempted war crimes convict ATM Azharul Islam's lawyer Tajul Islam from the contempt of court allegation after he gave an unconditional apology.
Tribunal 1 passed the exemption order on Monday afternoon.
The court issued a rule against Shibir President Abdul Jabbar and General Secretary Md Atikur Rahman, asking them to give an explanation within three weeks regarding why action should not be taken against them for contempt of court.
The court also exempted and gave warning to Jamaat’s acting ameer Maqbul Ahmed, acting nayeb-e-ameer Mohibur Rahman, acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman from the charge after accepting their explanations.
On December 30, Jamaat-e-Islami called a two-day countrywide shutdown for December 31 and January 1, protesting the death penalty to its leader ATM Azharul Islam for war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
Later, the tribunal issued the rule against them for calling a hartal over the verdict of war crimes convict ATM Azharul Islam.
