Measles outbreak: Death toll 742 as one child dies in 24 hours

One more child has died from measles-related symptoms across the country in 24 hours till 8am Tuesday, raising the cumulative death toll to 742 since the outbreak began in mid-March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 819 new suspected measles cases were reported nationwide, while 173 cases were laboratory-confirmed, the DGHS said in its daily health bulletin.

Since March 15, a total of 107,384 suspected measles cases have been reported, including 12,964 confirmed infections.

The latest death was reported from Dhaka district under Dhaka division.

According to the DGHS, 649 of the total deaths have been classified as suspected measles deaths, while 93 have been confirmed through laboratory testing.

The health bulletin also said 90,522 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals since March 15, of whom 86,844 have been discharged after recovery.

Health authorities continue to urge parents and caregivers to ensure eligible children receive measles vaccinations and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, rash, cough, runny nose or red eyes develop.
