New outpatient unit opened at Shishu Hospital

Facility, built with support from Beximco Pharma, aims to expand access to care for underprivileged patients amid rising health concerns

A new outpatient treatment unit was inaugurated at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital & Institute in the capital on Thursday.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain inaugurated the unit, which was constructed by the country’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturer and exporter, Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC, said a press release.

The new outpatient unit will significantly improve access to treatment and better serve underprivileged patients.

Director General of Health Services Prof Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Chairman of the Board of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital Prof Dr AKM Azizul Hoque, Director of the hospital Prof Dr Mahbubul Hoque, Executive Director of ICDDR,B Prof Dr Tahmeed Ahmed, and other high officials from the government and Beximco Pharma were present.

Prof Dr AKM Azizul Hoque expressed deep appreciation for Beximco Pharma’s CSR initiative, highlighting the important role of the private sector in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding service capacity.

Beximco Pharma Chief Operating Officer Rabbur Reza said: “As a responsible organization, we remain committed to improving access to healthcare and these initiatives, as part of our CSR commitment, aim to address public health needs, especially during national crises.”

The company has also handed over three ventilators to the Health Ministry amid a measles outbreak in the country, which has raised serious public health concerns due to a sharp rise in infections among children and dozens of deaths reported in recent weeks.
