Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain on Wednesday ordered departmental action against five doctors for failing to join their assigned workplaces for an extended period after their appointment, during a surprise visit to Muradnagar Upazila Health Complex in Comilla.

The minister visited the hospital without prior notice this morning and inspected its medical services and overall activities.

During the visit, he toured the hospital wards, emergency department, and outpatient department. He also spoke directly with patients and their attendants to learn about the quality of healthcare services, availability of medicines, and any difficulties they were facing.

The minister immediately instructed the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to take departmental action against the five doctors who had not joined their workplaces despite their appointments.

He also closely examined the hospital's cleanliness and checked whether doctors and other healthcare workers were attending their duties regularly and performing their responsibilities properly.

Speaking to journalists and the authorities concerned after the inspection, Sakhawat Husain said ensuring quality healthcare service at people’s doorsteps is a top priority of the current government.

He stressed that no patient should be deprived of treatment at government hospitals or subjected to harassment by brokers.

The minister urged hospital authorities to remain highly vigilant to prevent such harassment and ensure that patients receive proper medical care. He also described regular attendance by doctors and maintaining cleanliness as mandatory.
