Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has introduced an online appointment service for patients visiting its outpatient department (OPD) in March, the month of independence.
Patients can now book appointments with doctors online through the BSMMU website.
The online appointment service was inaugurated on Saturday, by BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam.
At the time, the vice-chancellor said: “Improving the quality of patient care, ensuring the facilities for patients coming to the outpatient department of BSMMU, and expediting the university’s academic and research activities have made the introduction of an online appointment system in the outpatient department essential.”
He added: “The online appointment system will play a special role in connecting outpatient medical services with academic and research activities.”
Dr Md Shahinul Alam said that this initiative would ensure that doctors provide proper treatment to patients who book appointments online.
He added: “This system will significantly change the mindset of resident doctors who previously may have hurried through consultations. The online appointment system aims to foster a culture of giving patients adequate time, improving service quality, and enhancing patient satisfaction.”
The online appointment service is designed to reduce patient suffering, avoid unnecessary crowding, save time, and eliminate the hassle of long queues for OPD tickets. This initiative by BSMMU administration seeks to provide improved and satisfactory healthcare services to patients.
